TRANSHUMANISM

Transhumanism is an extension of secular humanist philosophy.  It involves using technology to transcend the limits of human biology.  The transhumanist movement seeks to redefine what it means to be human and to create posthuman beings.  In this presentation I discuss the connections between transhumanism and secular humanist principles derived from Enlightenment and Existentialist philosophers, and the potentials of bioengineering for altering the genetic structures of living beings.

EVANGELIZATION OF YOUTH

In this presentation I offer some personal reflections on evangelization, particularly with respect to young people.  Education is a chief component of evangelization.  I discuss education in Catholic schools, education of families, and higher education.  We need better catechesis for children at the grade school level, as well as catechesis for families.  At higher levels, studies of classical literature, history and philosophy are a vital part of the educational program, not only to develop intellectually well rounded students in a secular sense, but also as part of evangelization in a social environment which hostile to Catholicism, tradition and truth.
