Medical School Bias Against Pro-Life Applicants?
It
is common for medical schools to include open-ended questions dealing
with ethical issues, such as abortion. According to Biology Professor
Dr. Dan Kuebler, there is mounting anecdotal evidence over the past 30
years that abortion-related questions are being used to effectively rule
out the admission into medical school of candidates who are pro-life.
The schools won’t cite as a reason for rejection the fact the candidate
is pro-life, but rather state it in terms such as the candidate is
“naïve” or “too rigid” in their thinking. This is an area of
discrimination where state and federal legislation is completely
deficient. It’s an area in need of legislative protection and attention.
Failing to address this growing problem will adversely affect the type
of medical care offered to patients and procedures advocated as viable
and necessary.
